Can Diabetic Retinopathy Be Reversed?

    October 19, 2024 1637 Views

Certain eye condition risks are developed with increased diabetes. Diabetic retinopathy is one of the eye conditions which is affecting many individuals. Generally, diabetic retinopathy progression can be shown or stopped with proper management and treatment, but it is not reversible.

Managing this condition includes controlling blood sugar, managing blood cholesterol and pressure, and booking regular eye checkups at an eye hospital in India. You can also take the treatment for diabetic retinopathy through medication, surgery and vitrectomy.

Diabetic Retinopathy Is Reversal a Real Possibility

In your retina, your eyes are supported by various blood vessels. If you have diabetes that causes high blood sugar, it can damage these blood vessels because they are very sensitive. Thus, if your blood glucose level is high for a long period, the risk for these blood vessels may break, swell and leak, which causes severe vision loss.

Therefore, it is important to treat this condition. Diabetic Retinopathy treatment in India can provide the best possible way to prevent this condition. Unfortunately, if this diabetic retinopathy condition can occur, you may experience central vision loss,  inability to see the colours, blurry vision, black spots in your vision, and floaters in your visual fields.

There are two types of conditions that lead to this condition: non-proliferative and proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy condition is the initial phase of this condition that occurs when microaneurysms protrude from the borders of the blood vessels in your eyes, which can break and leak the fluid into the retina.

Proliferative diabetic retinopathy condition progresses when damaged blood vessels can close off, which promotes abnormal, weaker blood vessel development as this condition may progress to diabetic macular oedema by damage to the blood vessels in the retina.

When blood sugar levels are too high, which leads to blockage in the blood vessels in your retina, cutting off the blood supply is the major cause of the development of diabetic retinopathy. Anybody with diabetes can originate diabetic retinopathy, but some people are more at risk and are more likely to develop conditions such as if they have uncontrolled blood sugar levels.

If you have high blood sugar, high cholesterol, pregnancy issues, and smoking habits, then you have more risk of developing this condition. Damage induced by diabetic retinopathy is typically permanent. This condition can not be fully reversible, but some treatments from an eye hospital in India may help bring some of your vision back. Your eye doctor can help preclude your vision from worsening while treatments aren’t likely to return your vision.

To prevent eye conditions, there are several factors for Diabetic Retinopathy treatment in India, as you should carefully maintain the diet that is provided by your doctor and learn to control your blood sugar. It also helps you to prevent your future vision loss by taking diabetes medication. Medicines such as Avastin, Eylea, and Lucentis are also helpful in reducing blood sugar.

Laser surgery can also help you seal off blood vessels leaking fluid, which reduces retinal swelling. These blood vessels then shrink and cannot develop further. In the later phases of diabetic retinopathy, your optometrist may suggest a vitrectomy. During this therapy, your doctor surgically terminates the vitreous gel, blemish tissue, and blood from your eye that prevents light from focusing properly.
