What Is The Role Of Overnight Contact Lenses In Controlling Myopia

    March 1, 2025 2229 Views

A large section of the population around the world faces the issue of Myopia. Most individuals consider Myopia an aging condition, but in reality, it is much more than this. Minor inconveniences occurring due to Myopia can affect daily activities and quality of life. Treatment for Myopia is required. Otherwise, it gets worse as you age. You can consult doctors for myopia treatment in India. An experienced specialist can diagnose myopia and help you find practical solutions to manage nearsightedness.

There are types of treatments available to manage Myopia, also known as nearsightedness. An ophthalmologist guides you with treatment on the basis of the condition of your nearsightedness. Many doctors advise to wear glasses only to treat major refractive errors. For mild and moderate Myopia, a specialized lens called an Orthokeratology lens is used to treat nearsightedness. Learn about Orthokeratology lenses and their role in treating Myopia through this blog.

Brief introduction: Myopia

It is a condition referred to as a refractive error, causing difficulty in seeing far objects clearly. Nearsightedness and Myopia are the two terms most commonly used by doctors to refer to the condition. Myopia occurs due to the shortening of the cornea and when the eye becomes elongated. Some early symptoms of the condition include headaches, eye strain, and difficulty seeing distant objects clearly. These are signs of mild and moderate Myopia. In some significant conditions of high Myopia, the risk of occurring retinal detachment, cataracts, and glaucoma are also increased. Advancements in the medical field have introduced a number of myopia treatments in India to correct vision by reshaping the cornea in various ways, which are listed below.

What is the Role Of Overnight Contact Lenses in Correcting Vision?

Hard lenses, also known as orthokeratology lenses, are also used to correct Myopia. The lenses are infused with Rigid Gas permeable (RGP). These lenses help in reshaping the cornea at night and enable the person to see clearly during the day without the need to wear lenses. Orthokeratology lenses are different from regular lenses, as these eye lenses are worn only at night. It helps in reshaping the cornea temporarily, but the effect only lasts for a limited time.

People with mild or moderate Myopia are the ideal candidates for overnight lenses. It is the best option for one who finds it difficult to wear glasses or regular lenses all day. Orthokeratology lenses require regular maintenance and are not a permanent solution. These lenses are costlier than regular lenses. Get orthokeratology lenses only after consulting the eye specialists at our eye hospital in Punjab. Doctors can assess the condition of myopia and guide patients on the best option to correct their vision.

Other ways to treat Myopia

  • One of the most traditional ways to treat Myopia is eyeglasses. These eyeglasses are specially designed with lenses to refract light and focus on the retina. By wearing these glasses, one can see distant objects clearly. Eyeglasses are the most affordable option for correcting nearsightedness, but they are not suitable for every activity, such as sports.

  • Another option for more precise vision is soft eye lenses. It offers more natural vision than glasses. Eye lenses are easy to wear but require routine cleaning and extreme care. There is a need to change lenses regularly, which makes it a costlier option in the long term.

  • Myopia can also occur in children. To slow down the progression of nearsightedness in children, atropine drops are used. The eye drop helps relax the eye muscles and promotes enlargement of the pupil. Atropine drops also have side effects like blurred vision or light sensitivity. Use atropine drops only after consulting with a specialist at an eye hospital in Punjab. Doctors can guide you with dosages and precautions to follow when using eye drops.

  • Ultimately, the last option is laser eye surgery. One of the best long-term options for correcting vision is laser technology, which is used to reshape the cornea. Laser surgery is one of the best options, but not everyone is a suitable candidate for it. It requires a significant investment, and not everyone can afford the procedure.

Conclusion

Nearsightedness is a common condition and is easily treatable, so do not panic after getting diagnosed with it. With complete guidance from an eye specialist, you can correct the vision in the above-mentioned ways. After you notice the early symptoms of Myopia, do not ignore the condition and get your eyesight checked by an optical shop. If you notice nearsightedness, then consult the ophthalmologist immediately for early diagnosis and treatment.
